The WV Alliance for Sustainable Families (WVASF) was organized in December of 1996 under the name of the West Virginia Welfare Reform Coalition (WVWRC). It was created to initiate action in the areas of research, education, advocacy, and coalition building to ensure that West Virginia’s citizens, communities, and organizations successfully implement welfare reform. The Alliance has served as an important voice for West Virginia’s low-income children and families by identifying and acting upon a variety of issues impacting families who are primarily receiving public benefits. Current areas of focus for the organization are asset development, financial literacy and economic sustainability for working families.
